Riparian Management

The Riparian Management Program is designed to assist landowners with the protection and restoration of corridor areas along waterways (known as riparian habitat) in an effort to reduce stream bank erosion, enhance habitat for wildlife, and improve downstream water quality.

The specific riparian management projects that the SRRCD becomes involved with include:

  • Riparian fencing
  • Watering systems away from creeks/rivers
  • Designated cattle crossings
  • Grass / Treed buffer establishment

Other projects that provide benefits and enhancements to the riparian area will also be considered.

The funding available for riparian fencing and cattle crossing projects is 75% of total project costs, to a maximum of $1000.  For grass/treed buffer projects, funding available is up to a maximum $1000 for total seed/tree costs.  Off-site watering projects are funded up to 50% of the total project costs, up to a maximum of $10,000. In-kind landowner contributions (tractor, labor, tools, etc.) may be included as part of the landowner ’s payment towards the project.
